Skills Swap with Noel Dunne

In these hard financial times, if you’re looking at new ways to find that creative service or product, or to hire that certain piece of equipment, perhaps you’d be prepared to consider a skills swap for something you’re able to offer in return. Or perhaps you need to work with an expert in a particular field who’d be prepared to do a deal? Why not come along and find out.

As part of the Know Your Place event this Thursday from 4-6pm we will be holding a Skills Swap session for anyone who has a work or a skill requirement that they’re willing to pay for, swap or barter. We’ll be aiming to match up people in the audience to try and ensure that everyone gets practical results from networking whilst also taking away some tangible contacts.

The session will be faciliated by Noel Dunne who works cross-sector in education and creative learning.

We are now taking booking for October’s Know Your Place which is part of this year’s Hello Business event.

October’s event focuses on promoting your business via social networks and looks at how the right digital tools can help you promote your enterprise and win new work.

There will be a chance to hear from four inspiring speakers, network with likeminded individuals at the Hello Business SXSW party and receive information about funding and incubation space.

If you’re a recent graduate and about to set up your own business, or already working as a creative freelancer or SME, then join us for the fourth (in a series of) Know Your Place event(s).

Know Your Place – OCTOBER

We are delighted to announce the date for the fourth Know Your Place event. We will be hosting our event at this year’s Hello Business conference on Thursday the 21st October from 4-6pm.

October’s event will look at how to promote your enterprise using social media. You’ll hear real-life case studies from speakers who win new work using Twitter, how to use blogs to connect with their costumers and keep abreast of new online trends.

You will also get the chance to network at the Hello Business SXSW party afterwards.

First a big thank you to everyone that turned up to our third Know Your Place event at the end of August. With over 60 people in attendance we heard great stories from our 4 speakers as well as some great advice on getting yourself in to a pitching frame of mind.

We are very pleased to announce that we are working on our fourth event which will be taking place during the latter end of October. This event will focus on promoting your work and business using social media, finding out how you can make it work, bring in money and sell yourself effectively.

More details will be available very soon so keep an eye on the site for further announcements.

Funding for graduates

UNEMPLOYED GRADUATES ARE OFFERED HELP AND FUNDING TO BECOME THE NEXT ENTREPRENEURS

This morning’s news has been filled with stories about the lack of opportunities for current graduates along with Lord Digby Jones calling for a shake up of the University system.

With thousands of graduates leaving university this summer ready to join the working world what do they do when there are no jobs for them? Last year unemployment for graduates rose by 25% (17% of male and 11% of female graduates are unemployed) but a degree is still a fantastic long-term option that improves skills, employability and chances for promotion.

This month Know Your Place is hosting an event, on behalf of BSEEN, to help graduates set up on their own and put their well-honed skills to use. The third event will take place on Wednesday 25 August at Zellig at The Custard Factory, Digbeth.

KYP will offer much needed advice on freelancing and entrepreneurship with four excellent speakers, Angela Maxwell OBE, Noel Dunne, Clare Edwards and Marc Silk, who will be sharing their knowledge, experience and advice on the day. We’ll also be hosting one-to-one Business Link advice sessions.

In addition to this anyone that has graduated in the last four years and has a Birmingham post code can benefit massively from the BSEEN programme. It enables recent graduates who are looking to set up a new business to find incubation space, funding of £500 per month, mentoring and training to help get them on their way.
